A team of volunteers worked 'flat out' on a cold and rainy Saturday to clean up a part of Kingston's riverside.
Julian Meers organised a team last weekend (Saturday, February 3) and cleared a large amount of litter and greenery to make The Queen's Promenade 'a more pleasant walk for the local community'.
Mr Meers said: "It was my way of unofficially kick starting The Arcadian Thames, an initiative of Kingston Council which is presently under public consultation to improve the Kingston Riverside."
Support came from Kingston Council, who also provided equipment, The Environment Trust, Surbiton Wildlife Group, Surbiton Farmers' Market and Pizza Express, who fed the volunteers at lunchtime.
Mr Meers said: "It goes to prove there is much goodwill locally which can be harnessed positively to make a difference. I hope, in future, people give more thought to disposing of their litter to keep the prom looking loved and unlettered and so making it one of the most pleasant ways of approaching Kingston on foot."
