A man was hit by a lorry while crossing the road in Merton High Street.

The man escaped with minor injuries following the incident outside South Wimbledon station at 1.05pm yesterday (January 22).

Mrs Lori White, from Wimbledon who saw the crash said: “I witnessed a pedestrian under a lorry at the notorious South Wimbledon Tube junction this afternoon.

"The pedestrian had apparently gone under the lorry, but he had survived the ambulance and police were soon on the scene and all traffic stopped. 

"This is such a busy and stressful junction, there are often accidents and near misses."

A Met Police spokesman said: “Police and London Ambulance Service were called at 1.05pm on Monday, 22 January to reports of a road traffic collision outside South Wimbledon Station, Merton High Street.

“Police arrived and found that a man had been hit by a lorry when crossing the road. He suffered minor injuries.

“No arrests and enquiries continue.”
