An eight-year-old girl Wallington schoolgirl has scooped a role in high profile supermarket commercial.

Highview Primary School pupil Savannah Ward featured in a Christmas TV advert for supermarket chain Aldi.

After attending auditions last August, in which she competed against many other young actors, Savannah’s family faced an agonising few days before learning that she’d got the part.

Savannah’s Mum, Hayley, said: “We were so excited when we found out she had got the part. She had been on many auditions before, so we didn’t think anything of it. So it was a big shock. I was on set with her filming. Everyone was so lovely and we all had lots of fun.”

Savannah said: “I was so excited to tell all of my friends I was on TV. When I’m older I want to be an actress or work in a shop.”

The eight-year-old filmed the festive advert over two dates in August and September.

The Aldi Christmas advert tells the story of Kevin the carrot and his romantic love interest Katie. After the carrot’s romantic tale proved a hit with viewers back in 2016, the 2017 advert sees Kevin and Katie reunited with baby carrots of their own. After viewers watch the baby carrots opening presents at home, the camera zooms out to reveal the carrots are in a dolls house then shows a happy family at Christmas time. Savannah is seen sitting at the Christmas lunch table, clutching a carrot.

Savannah attends weekly acting, singing and dancing classes at Make Believe Theatre School in Sutton. After showing herself to be confident in all aspects of performing, she was quickly snapped up when the theatre school's company launched an agency in 2015.

Talent agent Eilidh McCole, who runs MB talent, said: “Savannah has been on the agency books with me from the beginning. She is a true little star.”
