A Wimbledon pub will give out free sandwiches every week to combat loneliness.

The Alexandra, in Wimbledon Hill Road, will be hosting 'Meet Up Mondays' to show some love to those who are lonely in the area by offering free sarnies, tea and coffee and a free bingo.

Mick Dore, general manager at The Alexandra said: "We saw first hand on our Christmas day initiative that there are lots of people on there own and we just felt it would be nice to give something back to the community and do our bit all year around rather than just on Christmas day."

#MeetUpMondays will happen in the sports bar in the pub every Monday from 11am to 3pm from Janaury 8.

Mr Dore said: "The plan is to do it every Monday bar bank holidays.

"We hope it will give to the communities, retired people who are lonely for whatever reason, somewhere to come and meet and make friends and to have a bit of fun and hopefully something to look forward to each week."

The Alexandra became a viral sensation on social media for its offering of a free couple of pints and free turkey dinners for anyone on their own for Christmas which has been going for seven years. They have also been in the headlines again after finding a pay packet in their pub and launching a campaign to reunite the money with the man who earned it.
