A council has told people not to exceed a strict limit of Brussels sprouts this Christmas.
Leicestershire County Council is trying to cut down on waste this Christmas and so has suggested how many sprouts each person should get.
It tweeted: “Six sprouts = one portion. Don’t overbuy and they won’t go to waste.”
This sparked outrage on social media as people resented the idea of being told what to do especially at Christmas with all their own traditions.
Some accused the authority of “totalitarianism” and acting like a “nanny state”.
