A Specsavers in Bromley is offering a new service - and it's not the kind of thing you'd ask a mate to help you out with.

The store, which usually specialises in giving people eye tests, will run ear wax cleaning sessions.

Punters can go and have their ear gunk removed by audiology experts, to help ease discomfort and improve hearing.

The Bromley branch on the High Street is the only store to offer the service.

Hearing director at Specsavers Audiologists in Bromley said: “Amazingly our ears biologically self-clean and ear wax helps to maintain the health of our ears.

“But problems can arise when items, such as cotton buds or ear plugs, are inserted into the ear.

“This interferes with the ear’s natural cleaning process and pushes wax and debris further into the ear, which can cause build-up or a blockage of the ear canal.

“Wax build-up also makes it very difficult to perform accurate hearing tests, so this new service means customers can have everything managed at the same time, and without the need to refer a customer to their GP, relieving pressure on the NHS and taking away the hassle of re-booking a test.

“If you notice any of the symptoms of impacted wax, including sudden or partial hearing loss, tinnitus, a feeling of fullness in the ear or earache, then we advise you to visit one of our audiologists in store who can help resolve the issue.

“At Specsavers we also recommend that anyone over the age of 55 has a hearing test every year as part of a regular health care routine.”
