Two drug dealers who carried a machine gun and live ammunition have been jailed.

Dajour Shakeem Da Costa, 21, of Elmworth Grove in West Dulwich was found guilty and sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday, August 25, to 11 years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to supply cannabis, possession of a firearm and possession of live ammunition.

He was further sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, namely crack and heroin, following a separate case heard at Reading Crown Court and investigated by Thames Valley Police.

The sentences are to run consecutively.

Jordan Oxley, 22, of Woodcote Road, Epsom, was also found guilty and sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday, August 25 to a total of 13 years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to supply cannabis, possession of a firearm and possession of live ammunition. He was given five years for the drugs offence and eight years for the firearm and ammunition offences.

The sentences are to run consecutively.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: "The court heard that at 8.25pm on Monday, January 16, officers attended a home on Balfour Road in South Norwood, to conduct an arrest enquiry for a man who was wanted on recall to prison.

"Inside the flat was Da Costa and two other men. Following a search of the premises, a quantity of cannabis, weighing scales, drug paraphernalia, mobile phones and £12,311.12 in cash were discovered."

Officers searched a vehicle outside the address and, inside a bag, they found a vz. 61 Skorpion submachine gun and 17 live rounds of .32 bullet cartridges. They also found 11kgs of cannabis in two large holdalls.

Forensic analysis of the gun and holdall connected them to Da Costa and Oxley. The street value of the drugs was estimated to be £125,000.

Da Costa was arrested that day and was charged with possession with intent to supply cannabis.

Following enquiries, Oxley was arrested on Wednesday, January 18 and he was charged with possession with intent to supply cannabis the next day.

Both men were subsequently charged with the firearms offences.

The two men in the residential address at the time of Da Costa’s arrest were tried for conspiracy to supply cannabis and found not guilty.
