A woman from Wimbledon says she will never shop at Lidl again after she noticed 'worms' in her pork steaks.

Michalina, 21, said she bought the meat at the Plough Lane store on August 21, and kept it in the fridge before she went to cook them two days later for her and her boyfriend's dinner. The meat was marked as in-date until August 26.

It was while the meat was cooking in the pan she noticed one of the steaks contained small 'worms'.

She said: "I didn't see them until they were almost ready to eat. There were three to five of them in one of the pieces.

"I'm a regular customer and shop at Lidl once or twice a week. I always recommend them to my friends and say how good it is but now, after this, I would never go back."

Michalina says she could not be sure if the other pieces of meat contained the 'worms' as they could have been hiding inside. After taking pictures of the pork steaks she threw away the meat.

Michalina says she will 'never shop at Lidl again'

The Wimbledon resident has contacted customer service at Lidl, and Merton Council's Food Safety Team.

She said: "I couldn't believe the worms. Lidl haven't got back to me yet but even if I get a discount or money off I won't go back, not after this has happened. Imagine if I had eaten one of them, it's disgusting."

Merton Council said it could not comment on an ongoing investigation but confirmed the complaint had been received.

A spokesperson said: "The photographic evidence isn’t clear and subject to further investigation to identify what the foreign object is."

A spokesperson for Lidl said: "We were very sorry to see this and can confirm that our quality assurance team are investigating the matter with the supplier, having been notified by the customer yesterday.

"We only ever work with reputable accredited suppliers who have strict controls and procedures in place to ensure that our products meet the high standards demanded by us and by our customers.

"We are therefore, very disappointed that the expected high standards have not been met on this occasion and will update the customer on our findings."
