A man on Facebook is trying to find a chivalrous dog-walking gentleman who gave an elderly woman a lift on his bicycle to her friend's funeral.

A letter, signed by a Norah Jiernan, was sent to Generation Windows in Sutton. Owner Jamie Dodd said the letter was addressed to 'the Editor' but the address was for his business.

The sender may have been trying to reach the local paper, he believes.

Mrs Jiernan writes that she is looking to thank a gentleman who helped her after she became lost on the way to a friend's funeral.

The road name Woodland Way is written at the top of the letter. It is unclear whether she lives in Woodland Way, or whether that was where she first became lost, and came upon our story's hero.

There are two roads of this name in the area, one near Morden Park and one in Mitcham.

The letter says the man in question was on a bicycle and walking his two dogs when she asked for his help. The 78-year-old said that in response, her rescuer asked if she could sit on the seat of the bike.

After settling onto her new mode of transport, her helper pushed her through the fields in Morden Park to the funeral, which she managed to reach on time.

Mrs Jiernan was carrying flowers, a bag and a walking stick when she became lost, and the gentleman carried them for her.

She said: "This caused great hilarity to some people, and I know the person who had died would have thought it very funny.

"A big thank-you to the wonderful gentleman for all his help and the dogs for their great behaviour."

Mr Dodd has shared the letter on Facebook, in the hopes of finding the knight in shining armour.

He said: "I thought it was a really nice thing so I just want the guy on the bike to see it. When I read it I just thought it seems a bit mad that the man pushed her on his bike like that."
