Wimbledon BookFest are looking for young musicians to play at the festival's gig night which will be hosted by an industry talent spotter.

BookFest's Gig Night is now in its third year, and showcases young local bands, singers, rappers, musicians and performance poets in front of a live audience.

It will be hosted by Radio X DJ and talent spotter John Kennedy.

In the past two years, pupils from Graveney, Wimbledon College, Ursuline High, Ibstock, Emmanuel, Wimbledon High and Glenthorne schools have performed on the Wimbledon Common stage.

The festival is looking for artists under the age of 19 from all genres of music to play at the event.

Organiser Julian Butler said: "The night is hosted by Radio X’s John Kennedy – one of the best talent spotters in the business. John was the first DJ to play music by Adele, Mumford & Sons, MIA and The XX.

"John and I are dedicated to giving young artists their first exposure, and the Baillie Gifford Big Tent at BookFest is the perfect venue for it. We are looking for artists under the age of 19 in all genres of music, from rock to rap, grime to folk."

Musicians can email a demo (audio or video) to gignight@wimbledonbookfest.org before 15 September.

Gig Night takes place at Wimbledon BookFest on Saturday October 14 at 5.45pm. See https://www.wimbledonbookfest.org/ for more information and details on how to enter.
