A 22-year-old man has been sent to prison for four and a half years after a knife-point robbery in Sutton High Street.

Eessa Orchard, of Hallmead Road in Sutton, pleaded guilty to robbery, possession of a knife and possession of cannabis at Croydon Magistrates' Court.

On April 26 he approached a woman at a cash point on Sutton High Street. The male was holding a kitchen knife and withdrew £170 from the bank account after the female retreated.

After the woman notified the police the man was arrested later that day after being recognised from Sutton Council’s CCTV network. After searching him the police found the knife, stolen cash and cannabis.

A police statement read: “Crimes like these are rare in Sutton but with a quick response from the victim and through working in partnership with Sutton Council, Sutton Police have been able to quickly apprehend Orchard and make Sutton's streets even safer.”
