How hot was it today?
So hot that it appears the lining around the tram tracks in the Croydon town centre have been “torn up.”
This afternoon, Sarah Beth, who was passing by the tracks on Lebanon Road noticed something seemed wrong when she took a closer inspection of the tracks.
She posed the question “is this even safe?”
Pictures and video that she posted on her Twitter showed a black substance being removed from the tracks as trams passed by.
Transport for London, which owns the tram network, was contacted for a comment. But the Croydon Guardian - responding to a different concern of “melting roads” near the West Croydon bus station – was reassured that “it’s perfectly safe.”
We’ll give more information when it becomes available but the service appears to be running as normal.
