Nine of the best places for young professionals to live are in south west London according to new research.

Wandsworth, Wimbledon, Fulham, Battersea, Streatham and Putney are ranked in the top twenty areas. Wandsworth is ranked number two, and Wimbledon number three.

The report, released by Lloyds Bank in April, shows that young professional home buyers are paying on average a premium of £71,000 to live in the 20 most popular postal districts in the UK.

In Wandsworth SW18, the average property value is £763,418 which is two per cent higher than the average property value in that area. In Wimbledon SW19, the average property value is £703,388, which is 18 per cent higher.

Lloyds’ research was based on profiling of “young, urbanite professionals” aged 25 to 44 by CACI and Land Registry housing market figures.

Lloyds Bank Mortgage Products Director Andrew Mason said: "Aspiring young professionals are typically well qualified, in well paid jobs and tend to live in areas not far from the city centre where they work.

“These are also places where they can enjoy easy access to green space and a range of places to socialise. These buyers also don’t appear to be put off by the significant premium in price to live in areas popular with young professionals."

Just over half of London’s workforce is in the 25 to 44 age bracket. Other areas in the capital making the top 20 include Tower Hamlets, Hampstead, Chiswick, Ealing, Hammersmith and Kilburn.
