The A23 Purley Way was closed in both diections from 6.30am after a lorry spilt silage (high moisture grass fodder) on the road.
The road re-opened shortly before 3pm.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said police believe the spill led to a crash at 6.15am between a car and a van, and a motorcyclist crash at 6.25am.
A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service (LAS) confirmed they were called to the first crash.
She said: "We were called at 6.21am this morning to reports of a road traffic collision in Purley Way, Croydon.
"We send an ambulance to the scene.
"We treated a woman for an injured hand and took her to hospital."
The motorbike crash was too minor to require the LAS.
The road was closed in both directions between Edgehill Road and Imperial Way / Waddon Way.
Long delays are still being experienced through Purley, Coulsdon and south Croydon.
