Wimbledon police station was evacuated this afternoon after a historic hand grenade was brought into the station.
A spokesman for Merton police said: "A concerned member of the public brought in a historic device that they thought could have been a grenade.
"As a precuation and a safety measure, the appropriate cordons were put in place and specialist officers were quickly on the scene to check the device, which was in minutes proven to be inert."
The spokesman confirmed the device was a "historic hand grenade."

Queens Road was closed while police dealt with the grenade, but has now reopened.
The road was closed at approximately 2.30pm this afternoon, and reopened at about 2.45pm.
