Consultation has started on proposals to establish a neighbourhood forum on planning issues in Tooting.
In the first stage of this process, which began yesterday (January 10), the council has received applications to establish both a Neighbourhood Area and a Neighbourhood Forum in Tooting.
People living in Tooting would be able to consult and contribute to planning policies, including setting out a neighbourhood plan, which will allow residents to play an active part in the development of their local area.
Residents and businesses would also get the chance to contribute to decisions on money spending received from developers under the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Regulations.
Neighbourhood plans still need to be in line with the council’s Local Plan, comply with The London Plan and the National Planning Policy Framework.
Planning chairman Cllr Sarah McDermott said: "The council is committed to getting local people engaged in the planning and development of their area.
"We would encourage residents and businesses to get involved for the benefit of the Tooting Bec and Broadway area."
The current applications seek to establish what would be called the Tooting Bec and Broadway Neighbourhood Planning Area and the Tooting Bec and Broadway Neighbourhood Planning Forum.
Residents can comment on the council’s website or email planningpolicy@wandsworth.gov.uk.
The current consultation will last six weeks and conclude on February 20.
