The union striking over the role of guards on Southern trains has accepted the offer of direct talks with transport secretary Chris Grayling.
The general secretary of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT), Mick Cash today wrote to Mr Grayling to arrange a meeting at his “earliest convenience”.
Mr Cash wrote: “I am happy to meet with you so that we can discuss these pressing matters. “Do contact my office to arrange a meeting at your earliest convenience.”
The Department for Transport has been contacted for comment.
