Sutton’s Jewish community has celebrated the induction of their new Rabbi during a ceremony at the Sutton and District Synagogue.
Some 170 members attended the service that saw Rabbi Shmuli Sagal formally introduced as minister of the community by Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth, Ephraim Mirvis.
The induction coincides with the synagogue’s 70th anniversary and was attended by Cllr Richard Clifton, Mayor of Sutton, Paul Scully, MP for Sutton and Cheam and Tom Brake, MP for Carshaton and Wallington.
A spokesman for the synagogue said: “Rabbi Shmuli and Rebbezen Tali Sagal and their daughter Layla bring an abundance of energy and enthusiasm to the community.”
