Want to go out for a meal but can't be bothered to go out for a meal?

Fear not: Deliveroo, the service that promises to transport food from "high-quality" restaurants to your door, launched in Croydon today.

The company delivers food from eateries that do not have their own delivery service, charging customers £2.50 per order.

Deliveroo has become something of a culinary phenomenon since launching in 2013, with its cycling and moped-riding couriers now almost ubiquitous in parts of London.

More than 15 restaurants in Croydon have signed up the service so far, including the Meze Lounge, Carribean eaterie The Dutchie, Pizza Express and Zizzi.

Deliveroo said the expansion would create 50 jobs in the borough, most of them delivery riders.

Jeremy Rawlinson, general manager at Deliveroo, said: "We’re extremely excited to be expanding into Croydon and we’re looking forward to bringing some of the borough’s delicious dishes straight from the hands of local chefs to customers’ doors.

"Croydon is a multicultural and prosperous area with a diverse range of restaurants and we have seen a real appetite for the service.

"We already have a number of great partners across outer London and we are excited to expand and widen the variety of restaurants on offer to our customers in Croydon over the course of the next year."

Earlier this month, Deliveroo couriers protested outside the company's London headquarters over the introduction of a new pay regime.

More than 100 staff rebelled against plans to pay them £3.75 per delivery instead of an hourly rate of £7 plus £1 per delivery.

The dispute prompted the Government to order Deliveroo to ensure staff are paid at least the minimum wage.

Deliveroo said it was trialling the new pay model and would allow couriers to continue using the older format.
