Two teenagers were found guilty of attempting to mug another boy but allegations one of the attackers threatened the victim with a seven-inch kitchen knife have been dismissed.

A 15-year-old tried to rob a 14-year-old boy of his mobile phone and punched him in the face in Chertsey Court, Mortlake, on July 12, 2016, Wimbledon Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday August 16.

His 17-year-old accomplice cycled up behind the victim and told the 15-year-old to “just rob him,” the victim claimed.

The victim claimed the 15-year-old also threatened him with a seven-inch kitchen knife, but Ayanna Nelson, defending, said this was a complete fabrication.

The victim told the court his attacker and his accomplice stopped him while he was walking across the estate and asked for his phone, which he refused.

He said: “They both asked me where I was going and when I turned around [the 15-year-old] punched me in the face.

“My nose felt like it was broken and it was pouring out with blood.”

The victim said he ran to the nearby home of his football manager, who helped clean him up, then he was taken to hospital.

He said: “They [hospital staff] were looking around to see if any bones were broken but they said it was too swollen and there was too much blood for them to be able to look properly.

“It took about two weeks to recover but there is still some damage.”

When the victim was asked why he did not run when confronted with the knife, he replied “I didn’t want to act like a little wimp” and added “I didn’t want people to act like I am like a little baby.”

Ms Nelson asked: “Isn’t being dead worse than being a little baby?”

She added: “If there had been a knife you would have run as fast as you could.

“I accept that [the defendant] punched you in the face but there was no knife.”

The 15-year-old was found guilty of attempted robbery and not guilty of possession of the knife and will be remanded in youth custody until sentencing on September 7.

The 17-year-old was found guilty of attempted robbery and will be sentenced at Wimbledon Magistrates Court on the same date.
