Tributes have been paid to a ‘decent, hardworking and immensely kind’ Morden father of three who died after being swept out to sea during a family holiday.
Rudy Bruynius was with his wife Lisinda and daughter McKayla when he was hit by a freak wave in Newquay on Friday.
Despite rescue efforts the 33-year-old later died in hospital.
McKayla is reportedly still fighting for her life.
A JustGiving fundraising page set up by family friend Terri-Anne Remant has been flooded with tributes to the landscape gardener and has raised more than £22,000 for the family.
One well-wisher wrote: “Very sad news, I met Rudy through a friend, what a great guy and gentleman. Our thoughts are with your family through this terrible time.”
Another added: “In memory of Rudy who was a decent, hardworking and immensely kind man.
“Our thoughts go out to the Brunynius family at this exceptionally sad time and will be praying for your little girl.”
Mr Bruynius, who was originally from South Africa, was one of six people to die during a string of tragedies along the British coast at the weekend.
His wife took to the JustGiving page yesterday to thank people for their support after her daughter was transferred from Cornwall to a Bristol Children’s Hospital.
She said: “I can’t thank each and every one of you for your support, love and prayers.
“McKayla did well in transition and [we are] currently en route via ambulance. Will keep you all informed once settled.”
