A third teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 19-year-old in South Croydon.

He was detained yesterday by detectives investigating the fatal stabbing Andre Aderemi on the Monks Hill estate on Tuesday night.

Andre, who previously lived on the estate but recently moved to Chatham in Kent, was found bleeding to death in Heather Way at 7.40pm.

He was taken to hospital by air ambulance but later died.

Two other 19-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of murder in the early hours of Wednesday morning and today remained in custody at separate police stations.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place at Croydon mortuary today.

Family and friends of Andre, a former John Ruskin College and Oasis Academy Shirley Park pupil, gathered yesterday to lay flowers and light candles at the spot where he was found wounded.

They later held an emotional service St Francis Church on the Monks Hill estate.

His mother Yemi said the family had moved away from the estate to "get him out of this environment" and pleaded with young people to "stop the warring".

She told about 50 people gathered at the church: "I am just so sad that on this one time I wasn't there for him.

“I've always been there for him. He just had to call me and I'd have come.

"I don't know how I'm going to be the person that I have been before because Andre has been a huge part of my life. He is my rock."

Friends today paid tribute to Andre as "a funny, bright and talented guy".

Levelle Brown, 19, said: "Where do I start? Andre was one of a kind.

"First meeting him on a football pitch in year 5 to then going secondary school with him and throughout those years he did not change once apart from his hair. He was a funny, bright and talented guy.

"He was a close friend to everyone and would always put others before himself. There wasn't a dark moment whenever he was around.

"He was my bro, and will never leave mine or many of his friends' or families' hearts ever."

Ellesse Parsonson, also 19, said: "Me and Andre grew up together we went to the same primary school and high school.

"I still remember the time at his auntie Lorraine's wedding he picked me up and ran down a very steep hill with me in his arms and I didn't know that would be the last time I saw him.

"I have lost a friend but also a brother who will be missed by many but his cheeky smile will always stay with me."
