Sister Nora Nash, a Franciscan nun living just outside of Philadephia has been spending time in boardrooms and schools to attempt to inject harmony and morality into the business and education world.

Her quest took her to Gumley House School FCJ on June 20 where she spoke to a group of around 300 students about the importance of the ‘common good’ and in being concerned citizens about global issues.

Kaci Thornton, a Key Stage 3 student, said: “It was really inspiring and makes you realise how even little acts of kindness can change a lot of things.”

The presentation focused on corporate social responsibility and how organizations have the ability and power to make changes to improve human rights, working practices, climate change and reducing poverty, thereby achieving fairness and equality for all.

After her address to the students, she answered a broad range of questions about her work in the community. She has achieved international recognition from speaking to differing audiences around the world and therefore, was able to reply to the students on a range of topics.

Lucy Evans, a sixth form student, said: “If it wasn’t for people like Sister Nora part of our moral duty would be unfinished, she demonstrates how critical it is to fight for justice”.
