A flat fire in Wallington this morning caused 90 per cent damage to one floor of the two storey building.

Firefighters from Sutton, Wallington and Croydon stations and Sutton police dealt with the fire in flats in Daimler Way.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 5am, and the fire was under control by around 6am.

The London Fire Brigade said the cause of the fire is under investigation, and that no one was harmed in the blaze that "badly damaged" the flats.

The incident caused Redford Avenue, Wallington, to be closed – but it has now been reopened.
