CAU has now become a familiar fixture in Wimbledon Village since it opened at the end of 2014, and it was packed on Friday night when we went to check out its spring menu.

The pre-weekend atmosphere was buzzing – there were lots of happy couples, groups of friends and families with children dining there and there was thankfully no rush to vacate tables.

Wimbledon Times:

The service from management was impeccable – the duty manager was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and helpful, whereas more junior members of waiting staff tripped up on recommendations and seemed a bit uncertain when dealing with us.

On the menu were a dizzying choice of dishes, from small plates of tasty red pepper and chorizo skewers, hummus or haddock croquets, empanadas, or salt and pepper squid, to salads and tortillas.

Main meals centred around an impressive selection of Aberdeen Angus steaks and burgers, although they do have spatchcock chicken, pork belly and fish dishes too.

Being known for its steaks, we went for a classic rib eye, dubbed the steak lovers steak, with crispy chunky chips and garlic aioli sauce. Although flavoursome, it was a bit fatty for my taste and a friend said the same.

Desserts were particularly good. The churros lightly dusted in cinnamon sugar and served with creamy dulche de leche were very more-ish and delicious.

The inventive Pina-Cau-Lada Pudding – a grilled pineapple with rum caramel, coconut sorbet and lime, was tasty and hearty.

It was all washed down with a deliciously fruity mix of Argentinian wine and fruits, not unlike sangria and plenty of tap water.

I’d recommend CAU as a decent place to eat out in Wimbledon.
