A quick-thinking copper bear-hugged a man who tried to jump from a roof terrace and saved him from a "huge drop" onto the concrete below.
PC Alex Nicolaou grabbed the man after he and colleague PC Robyn Alder were called to reports of a man standing at an open window in Surbiton.
A Kingston police spokesman said: "As they got upstairs the man ran away from the window and on to a roof terrace, and jumped over the wall which had a huge drop to a concrete floor below.
"PC Nicolaou managed to grab hold of the man and bear hugged him to prevent his fall.
"He was quickly joined by PC Alder. Between them [they] lifted the man back over the wall and on to the terrace.
"The man was taken to Kingston Hospital for care and medical treatment."
PC Nicolaou was also treated for minor injuries after the call-out on Monday.
