A company that owns a Crystal Palace hotel previously found to be housing more than 600 asylum-seekers wants to build a new three-star hotel in Thornton Heath.

A proposal to demolish the Ibis Styles, Gilroy Court and Croydon Court hotels on London Road to make way for the new hotel was presented to Croydon Council on Thursday.

The development, proposed by Euro Hotels, would see three buildings between three and six storeys high with 565 rooms, two restaurants and a function room built on the site.

Euro Hotels also owns the Queens Hotel in Crystal Palace, which was found to be housing more than 600 asylum seekers in September 2014.

At the time inspectors found one of the Church Road buildings had 500 people sleeping in it and another building, which was supposed to accommodate 68, had 100 people in it.

There were more than four people living in en-suite rooms and they found one room was occupied by nine people.

A public exhibition on the proposal will be held on April 12 at the Queens Community Hall in Turner Crescent from 6pm to 8pm.
