A man who went on the run after breaching a restraining order granted to his ex-girlfriend has been jailed for two months.

Aaron Jenkins, of Peterborough Road, Carshalton, evaded police and went into hiding after failing to attend Croydon Magistrates Court on Wednesday, January 6.

The 24-year-old was wanted for breaching a restraining order on his former girlfriend, who is in her 20s, and was originally arrested on Christmas Eve.

The restraining order was granted after Jenkins made a throat-slitting sign to his ex-partner in July and was jailed for six weeks.

Police last week appealed for help to find Jenkins and warned anyone assisting him could face jail themselves.

Within hours officers were told of his whereabouts and he was arrested.

Jenkins was sentenced to two months imprisonment at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 11.

Detective Inspector James Carrington, of Sutton's Community Safety Unit, said: "This response from the public just confirms to us that Sutton residents share our intolerance of violent and threatening behaviour, particularly in a vulnerable scenario like this.

"Time and again, the public help us to bring offenders to justice and without them we couldn't do what we do, which is keeping Sutton one of the safest boroughs in London."
