A notorious North Cheam eyesore could finally be demolished for a £28m redevelopment two years after previous plans were scrapped.

Victoria House, a derelict office building at the crossroads of London Road and Malden Road, has been abandoned for 10 years and repeatedly targeted by vandals.

Since it 2006 the building’s ownership has been passed between private developers but no development has yet materialised.

Home Group, who bought the land in 2014, said they understand the community’s frustration that the site has been unused for so long.

Joe Richardson, head of delivery at Home Group, said: “When we came into ownership of the building in 2014 we knew that we could improve upon the previous plans which had been approved.

“We understand the community’s frustration that Victoria House has remained unused since 2006 and we know this is an important site to the community, which desperately wants to see the site brought back into use.”

A £28m regeneration of the area will replace the long-derelict flats with three shops and 90 apartments.

A consultation period on the plans will end on April 1.

Home Group has held community consultation events and worked with Sutton Council to plan the development.
