A shop owner in Coulsdon has labelled the town "dead" after his store became the latest to close its doors.
Deja New, on the corner of Brighton Road and Lion Green Road, was the fourth shop to shut since the multi-million pound Farthing Way relief road opened six months ago.
Shoe shop Stead and Simpson, jewellery store Gifts & Gold and bookshop Turner's, which had been in the town for 30 years, have all closed in the last two months. The antique dealership is set to follow suit by the end of June.
Owner Ken Dunmall said: "The whole place is a mess and the local people do not want to come here.
"Since the bypass opened our revenue has been reduced and they have been working on replacing traffic lights for three months now, with cables all over the path.
"There is nothing here anymore for people to come for. It used to be a through town but now it is a nothing town. It is dead."
The announcement comes a week after Transport for London revealed it was handing control of the controversial red route system to Croydon Council on June 18.
