A man thought be armed with a knife has been tasered by police and arrested outside Croydon town hall.
Witnesses described seeing "tonnes of police" pour into Katharine Street at about 1.45pm.
A man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife following a pursuit in which two officers were injured.
Police could be seen searching nearby bushes following the arrest.
A witness said: "He was running towards the zebra crossing, and then the police tasered him and he fell out in the road in front of a moving car.
“There are around 20 officers surrounding him at the moment and there are two meat wagons here."
A customer in the nearby Spreadeagle pub said: "It was chaos. I've never seen so many police."
The man, who did not want to be named, said he a policeman "limped into an ambulance" following the pursuit.
Another witness: "There were tonnes of police. It was very dramatic."

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "Officers attended, gave chase on foot and a taser was deployed. The man was detained in Katharine Street.
"Paramedics treated the man at the scene and he was later arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a bladed article and is currently being held in a south London police station.
"No members of the public were injured and two police officers sustained minor injuries."
London Ambulance Service were also called.
