Two of the borough's biggest housing estates will be regenerated and Wandsworth Council is seeking a partner to help make it happen.

The scheme aims to improve the local environment of the Winstanley and York Road housing estates in Battersea by adding 2,000 homes, along with new retail, leisure, community, and office space.

Ravi Govindia, leader of Wandsworth Council, said: "Hundreds of local people will be offered vastly improved homes which meet today’s needs and help their families to thrive.

"Our plans have the potential to dramatically improve the quality of life across this neighbourhood and we want to find a partner that will put our residents’ interests and needs at the heart of their approach."

The council has appointed Bilfinger GVA to procure a partner for the regeneration of the estates, located at the centre of the Clapham Junction and Battersea Riverside Housing Zone.

About 700 properties will be replaced and 1,300 refurbished, with existing leaseholders offered deals to stay in the new scheme.

Wandsworth has said it intends to offer a mixture of rental and affordable homes, including private homes for sale, but there is some worry that some le will not be able to afford the new homes.

When the regeneration was proposed in 2014, Labour councillor Simon Hogg said: "The key now is to make sure Winstanley regeneration delivers homes local people can actually afford to rent and buy.

"Wandsworth is seen as being on the side of big property developers, and in other generations around London, families have been made promises that were not delivered."
