Clapham will party like it’s 1929 when a new electro-swing club night comes to town.
White Mink will launch its residency at Clapham Grand on December 5, with the old Victorian music hall hosting a vintage-inspired night that mashes up the decadence of the 1920s and 1930s with the here and now.
It is the first of a number of their shows planned for the venue in the next few months.
Electro-swing remixes old jazz with contemporary house, hip-hop or drum and bass beats. As well as the music, White Mink’s night will ‘reimagine vintage cabaret’ with burlesque performers, cabaret acts, dances, live bands and DJs.
Leading the line-up for December 5 are Swingers, who perform classic swing, current hits and comedy with larger-than-life characters and dancers.
Swing ensemble The Shirt Tail Stompers are also set to perform, with their repertoire including the works of Fats Waller and Duke Ellington.
White Mink’s Nick Hollywood said: “The combination of an authentic vintage environment with the trappings of high-tech contemporary culture mean we can create a palpable ambience and deliver an opulent party that is a far cry from a typical night out in Clapham.
“Expect a celebration of the extravagant, lavish visual displays, thrilling burlesque acts, all set to a unique, inspirational soundtrack that mixes retro swing with rebellious electronic beats.”
White Mink is at Clapham Grand from 9pm to 3am on Saturday, December 5. Tickets cost £17.50 in advance or £21 on the door. Go to whitemink.co.uk
