Why was teacher Jeremy Forrest jailed after running off with a pupil but a babysitter who had sex with an 11-year-old boy spared prison?

It’s one rule for one and one rule for another – it’s no wonder our justice system is held up to ridicule.

How can this woman, who sexually abused an 11-year-old boy, walk away from court scot-free when Jeremy Forrest got five years?

You have to assume she was acting upon lust, whereas it can be argued Jeremy’s only crime was to fall in love! Whatever you might think about teacher Jeremy Forrest, surely we can all agree he’s been treated ridiculously harshly.

How can he possibly be given the same amount of jail time as some rapists? How on earth can he get five-and-a-half years when she walks away?

It’s argued that Jade Hatt hasn’t hurt anyone, but Jeremy Forrest didn’t hurt anyone. And before anyone starts bleating on about an abuse of trust, using his position etc, I get all of that.

But, there are always two sides to every story and who really knows where the fault lies?

A statement from the 11-year-old boy’s dad read in court said: "I know he told her he was 15. He looks older than his years.

"'He is sex mad. He would have been fully up for this experience and in many ways sees it as a notch on his belt and is totally unaffected by it.”

But, don’t forget, the dad of Jeremy Forrest’s ‘victim’ said he was ready to shake Jeremy’s hand and welcome him to the family.

No-one can condone Jeremy’s actions, no-one would suggest teachers can start carrying on with under-age students, but five-and-a-half years for what he’s did is completely ludicrous.

Should he now be free to apply for a new teaching job? I’ll let you decide.
