Neil Harris can finally celebrate his first Saturday home win in charge of Millwall following today’s 3-1 Den success over Rochdale.

Jimmy Abdou’s early opener was cancelled out two minutes before half-time by Peter Vincenti’s headed leveller.

However, the Lions went in at the break in front thanks to Shaun Williams and added a decisive third on the hour through Steve Morison to finally send The Den faithful home happy.

Harris said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be honest, I thought my players were outstanding.

“We scored three high quality goals. With the ball and without the ball I thought we were excellent.

“That is four wins in five for us so confidence is high.

“It is a weight off my mind because we are a long way into September and the first home win has not come.

“What has been bizarre is as much as we want to win here it has been difficult, not just for me, my staff and the squad but for the fans.

“I understand that because I’ve got friends who are Millwall fans.

“They get stick at work and things like that so I understand that, but as a group we’ve not felt pressurised that we haven’t won at home.”

He added: “We played really against Southend last week and they scored two goals from two chances, so we knew it was coming.

“I must admit it is a bit of a relief to get it today but it is another massive step forward for us.

“What we can’t do now is take two steps backwards, or even a quarter of a step backwards.

“We’ve got to go to Wigan on Tuesday, take the game to them and make sure we continue our good away form.”

Aiden O’Brien might not have scored but set up Abdou’s opener and Morison for the third, leaving Harris suitably impressed by the youngster’s display.

The boss said: “Aiden O’Brien is an outstanding player.

“He is an excellent footballer and he works tirelessly for the team.

“I think that is the biggest accolade I can give him. His team-mates appreciate that.

“Himself and Jimmy – we’ve got a good team – but they in particular certainly worked tirelessly for the side.”

But O’Brien wasn’t the only individual to be singled out for praise by the gaffer.

Harris said: “Steve Morison was brilliant today, he led the line really well and scored an excellent goal which we know he is capable of.

“Jimmy and Shaun have been a big part of us looking so good in the last five games as a pairing and I’m delighted for them to get two of our goals.

“We spoke about getting bodies in the box and breaking from midfield. It can’t always be your centre forwards that make a run or get in the box, sometimes you need players to do it from other positions. We’ve certainly got that ability.”

He added: “Shaun’s goal came at a vital time because I thought we were the better team in the first half and if we hadn’t come in winning we would have been disappointed and there could have been a little bit of negativity.

“To score just before the break was a cracking time.”
