A man is in custody after a body of a man was found in Worcester Park this morning.

The body was discovered at a property in Rushmere Court, The Avenue, in the Shadbolt area, after police received a report at 6.50am this morning of a concern for safety.

Witnesses reported seeing multiple police cars and ambulances in the area.

Surrey Police are treating the death on the Kingston, Epsom and Sutton borough borders as suspicious and are currently investigating.

Rushmere Court has been closed off and forensic teams were seen going into a building for flats seven to 12. 

A 32-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with the incident, and is currently in police custody.

Clive Popkin, 62, lives in a neighbouring block. 

He said: "I looked out my window at half past nine and saw the police cars and thought what the bloody hell is going on here.

"I have lived here all my life and we've never had anything like this.

"Most people here are lovely, but there is no community spirit.

"Someone could die and you wouldn't know."
