Staines Town's frustrated boss Steve Cordery is calling on his Jekyll and Hyde team to end the campaign with an unbeaten run of six games by gaining at least a point from their final Ryman League fixture of the season at Heybridge Swifts this Saturday.

Cordery says: "Since we lost any chance of reaching the play-offs due to our inconsistent results, the players have put a good run together.

"They have been fighting to convince me they deserve new contracts next season - and a couple have won a reprieve."

Staines had to be content with a 2-0 victory on a rutted Stag Meadow pitch on Tuesday over bottom club Slough, who have conceded 125 goals this season.

Howard Newton put them ahead in the 40th minute via a faint touch from defender Donovan and five minutes into the second-half Dean Thomas's hopeful punt from 35 yards bounced off keepeer Dennison's forearm into the net.

James Courtnage saved a late penalty conceded by Matt Flitter.

James Younghusband, who had to be carried off with a twisted ankle, had celebrated his return to the Staines side the previous Saturday by scoring his first goal for the club in the 3-1 home win over Ramsgate.

Mark Nwokeji made it 2-0 following a 30-yard run and skipper Matt Flitter slammed in his first goal of the season.

Staines Town women secured a second successive league title by beating Thurrock & Tilbury 3-0 Sunday.

Goals by Rachel Fell, Sam Oliver and Jo Ginger ensured they lifted the Greater London League Division One championship, 12 months after being promoted as champions of Division Two.

The women's last league game is at home to Luton Town tonight (Thursday).

If Staines win tonight Brentford will go up as runners-up, but if Luton gain a draw or a victory they will pip the Bees for promotion.

Staines Town youths beat high flying Godalming Town 2-1 in a Southern Youth League match at Wheatsheaf Lane last Thursday thanks to goals by Elliot Blake and Nick White despite finishing with 10 players for the third time in two months due to injuries to Marvin Brown and Dominic Dwyer.

Martyn Spong's team still have a mathematical chance of retaining their East Division title.
