Residential energy efficiency provider eaga has backed a major new campaign aimed at slashing CO2 emissions and tackling fuel poverty.

We're In This Together, which has been fully endorsed by Tony Blair, has just been launched by The Climate Group - an independent, non profit organisation dedicated to spreading best practice in emissions reduction.

It brings together leading businesses, Government and communities and provides practical ideas for how individuals can reduce their carbon footprint.

Initiatives within the campaign include a new calculator - due to be launched later this spring - enabling individuals to measure their own C02 output, phasing out inefficient light bulbs and removing inefficient white goods from the market.

A code of best practice for offsetting will also be introduced, helping people make informed choices about the most effective offsetting products on the market.

John Clough MBE, eaga Chief Executive, said: "Climate change and the threat it poses effects all of us, which is why it is so important to recognise that we really are in this together.

"It is also encouraging that the campaign places a heavy emphasis on helping people in fuel poverty insulate their homes and install more energy efficient boilers. Domestic energy use is responsible for more than a quarter of all the UK's carbon emissions so helping all households make their homes more energy efficient is vital."

As experts in reaching low income and vulnerable groups eaga has helped lift several million people out of fuel poverty in the UK and installed various insulation and central heating systems in more than 5 million homes.

Newcastle-based eaga works closely with central and devolved nation government departments, local authorities and the private sector, including the major utilities.

In England, for example, eaga manages the Government-funded Warm Front scheme. This provides grants of up to £2,700 for homeowners or people who rent from private landlords and who are on qualifying benefits.
