A violent blow from behind broke a man's jaw as he went he went to help a teenager who had been punched in the face.

The "cowardly unprovoked attacks" took place after a fight broke out between two groups of men outside kebab shop Epsom Grill in Waterloo Road, Epsom, on the night of Thursday, July 9. 

Police said a group of men went up to a 17-year-old boy and one of them verbally abused and punched him.

Another man, 31, rushed to help the victim but someone else came up behind him and hit him in the jaw. The violent blow smashed his jaw bone in several places.

After the attacks which took place around midnight on Thursday, July 9, and the early hours of Friday, July 10, the suspects reportedly went off in the direction of the high street.

Detective constable Leah Best said: "These were cowardly attacks and one was particularly violent on two young men and appears to have been quite unprovoked.

"One of the men suffered significant injuries and both have been badly traumatised and shaken by the ordeal."
