Walton-based Ray Gardner, best known for starring in the unforgettable 1996 Tango commercial, is flying the flag for Great Britain this St George's Day.
He has started a campaign calling for Little Britain to be officially declared a neighbourhood in New York's Greenwich Avenue.
Film and theatre regular Mr Gardner was chosen to front the campaign after an agency in New York decided Tango Man was perfect for the job.
As St George's Day approaches, Mr Gardner urged that there was no better time to show support.
He said: "We should be proud to be British. We need to show people that despite MPs hijacking the British flag, we are a country with many wonderful things to offer."
Little Italy, Chinatown and Spanish Harlem are just a few of the officially recognised areas within New York.
However, Little Britain remains unrecognised despite the number of British residents in New York City and the large number of British tourists.
