Further to your article Road's tight squeeze' (April 11), moped-riding traffic wardens have recently blitzed our quiet and narrow cul-de-sac, and issued no less than five parking tickets to cars that have parked upon the kerb.

Common sense has always been adopted by the residents of Carew Close, and parking on the kerbs has been a necessity to allow the free movement of emergency as well as refuse vehicles.

Historically, it seems that the council has agreed to this common sense approach, but not anymore. I understand that the problem is common to Old Coulsdon, with some narrow roads sensibly granted exemption from this enforcement.

Unfortunately for our residents, having spoken to the senior engineer in parking design services of Croydon Council who agrees that parking on both sides of the road would cause an obstruction to the carriageway, nothing will be done.

If the residents do not fundamentally object to footway parking, I see no valid reason for this not to happen. Surely the £200 raised from this recent venture should be enough to cover the costs of making our road exempt.
