Laura Robson looks likely to finally make a return to competitive tennis this weekend at the Aegon International at Eastbourne.
The 21-year-old has been out of action for 17 months with a wrist injury – and has not played since losing in the first round of the Australian Open in January last year.
However, the Wimbledon star tweeted today “Tournament bound, is this real life?”
The good news could also open the door to a wildcard entry to this year’s Wimbledon Championship.
Robson had not been included in the first set of wildcards – which did include former men’s champion Lleyton Hewitt – while organisers waited on her participation in the qualifying event on the south coast.
Brits handed a wildcard entry include Naomi Brady and Johanna Konta, while Kyle Edmund, Liam Broady and James Ward have also been given a spot in the first round.
The championship gets underway on June 29.
