A Peter Andre superfan is travelling more than 20,000 miles to see her idol perform at Hampton Court Palace this weekend.

Your Local Guardian: Happy days: Elly Washington may lay claim to being Andre's number one fan

Elly Washington, from Melbourne, Australia, became a fan of the popstar when she saw his music video for Gimme Little Sign in 1993 and first saw him live as the support act for East 17 in her home country in 1994.

The same year, the mother-of-two met Mr Andre for the first time after a performance at Dandenong Oasis swimming pool, Victoria, Australia, and since then, has travelled the world to see her hero.

This week, Ms Washington, 39, embarks on her latest trip to the UK to see the reality star perform at the Hampton Court Palace Festival on Saturday, June 20, along with seeing some ‘Andrettes’ she has met in the course of her fandom at the meet and greet ahead of the show.

Ms Washington, who has two sons aged 11 and 13, said the reason she travelled the distance was because he was the most "down to earth person" she has ever met.

She said: "I decided to see him to perform at Hampton Court because I miss him and want to see him again and also meet and greet is the best way to see him and get to know each other.

"I can also catch up with Pete's fans who I talk to and made friends with them from Twitter.

"Pete has had such a successful career because he’s been working so hard and he deserves it. He's very intelligent and has talent and also he is so caring to all his fans."

Ms Washington, who has a hearing impairment, has previously travelled to the UK with both her sons to see Mr Andre in concert and for meet and greets.

She said: "My son Callum came with me to UK in February 2013 to see Pete and also my other son Noah came with me to UK in August 2013 to see Pete and he said to me Noah is a nice name."
