Wandsworth Council recently announced that it is going to close Wandsworth Museum in order to save money.

At the same time, news emerged that Wandworth's chief executive Gerald Jones is one of the country's highest paid council employees with an annual salary of £227,424.

Mr Jones' job is apparently more important and stressful than even the Prime Minister's because he earns £40,000 a year more than Mr Blair.

Nice to know the council doesn't flinch from making these hard spending choices on our behalf.

Who needs a museum when you can boast of paying your top council executive more than £4,000 a week.?
