Police are investigating a major fire that injured a man in Thornton Heath last night.
Two other people escaped from the blaze, in a flat above a shop in High Street, which was tackled by 21 firefighters.
The flat did not have a smoke alarm, according to the London Fire Brigade (LFB).
Four engines from Norbury and West Norwood stations attended.
Firefighters had the flames, which started on the first floor of the flat, under control by 10.20pm.
The injured man was treated for leg burns by paramedics.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by police and LFB.
An LFB spokesman said: "It is massively important that people get a smoke alarm on every level of their homes."
