Temporary changes to road and pedestrian access will be in place in Petersham for four weeks next month while gas works take place.
Three-way traffic lights, bus stop suspensions and temporary pedestrian crossings will be used in Petersham Road while National Grid carry out works from Monday, June 8.
The works, in Petersham Road, will be between the junctions with Star and Garter Hill and Cedar Heights, around the area of Petersham Nurseries, Dysart Arms and St Peter's Church.
The work involves replacing existing metallic gas mains with new pipes that should last for decades.
Shaun Park, National Grid principal engineer, said the work would be a major project for the area and noise and disruption would be kept to a minimum.
He added: "Access to local businesses will be maintained at all times and we plan to work extended hours during the week and at the weekend to ensure the job is completed on time.
"It’s our job to ensure homes and businesses remain connected to a safe and reliable gas supply and that’s exactly what this project will do for local people."
