I received this morning a leaflet from Kingston Council indicating that my green bins were not used correctly during this week's collection and I need to use plastic bags to separate the rubbish.

Having read that only 75 per cent of Berrylands residents are participating in the trial may I politely suggest its time and extra leaflets, which will contribute to the amount of recycling, be aimed at those who are not bothering to join in with the farcical separation of rubbish into five different containers - yet still getting their rubbish collected - rather than residents who are paying the increased council tax and attempting to join in with a scheme they disagree with.

The veiled threat contained in this new leaflet states that I must understand which items go where "to ensure that your refuse will continue to be collected in the future". So what happens to my rubbish if I join the 25 per cent who are not participating yet are still clearing their rubbish?

I am disgusted at this attitude so early on in the trial - it is hardly winning hearts and minds.
