A safe was stolen during a burglary at a coffee shop.
Costa Coffee in Banstead high street was targeted on Sunday.
Police believe the getaway may have involved a car which hit a tree stump and a wall before driving off towards Wilmot Way.
The coffee shop’s back door was forced open at about 1.10am.
At about this time the Audi car, thought to be an A6, was seen hitting a tree and a wall nearby.
PC Erin McCauley said: "I would appeal to anyone who either saw something suspicious in the area around the time the offence occurred or who knows of a vehicle which sustained similar damage around the time of this incident to contact officers with information."
Anyone with information should call the police on 101, quoting reference 45150043283, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
