Children's author Anthony Wyatt paid a visit to the Merton Explore Learning Centre in Colliers Wood.
Wyatt, the author of Professor Molecule's Fantastic Listening Machine, read extracts from his book to the children at the centre.
Young aspiring authors were able to present their work to Wyatt, who zanswered any questions they had.
A spokesman for the centre said: "Anthony Wyatt's visit was a fantastic opportunity for Explore's budding writers to listen to his style."
"He has certainly inspired our members and we will look forward to reading more of their ideas."
The centre offers maths and English tuition for five to 14-year-olds.
