Baroness Susan Kramer cut the ribbon on Saturday, May 9, to mark the opening of day of fun on the East Sheen common, with dogs in all shapes and sizes coming along with their owners.

At the first dog show to be held on Palewell Common, awards were handed out to the handsomest male, prettiest bitch and dog with the waggiest tail.

The expansion of the boules area was also unveiled, with the first ball being thrown by Bill Stevenson, chairman of Richmond U3A.

John Hockley, who organises play at the common, said: “This expansion will now allow us to hold tournaments and play matches against other clubs.

“But best of all, most days, it will give almost everyone who turns up a chance to play straight away. We are very grateful to the council.”
